The Wine
We’ve long been fans of the Journey’s End winery. They not only make outstanding wines but are also very community minded. The cellar was founded by the Gabb family in 1995 and from the start have remained firmly committed to working sustainably and ethically. They began in Stellenbosch, then in 2018 launched their Swartland Growers’ Project, from which stems the fresh, fruity Earth, Vines and Sun white. It’s made by Leon Esterhuizen, whom Jancis Robinson MW describes as, “With quality remarkably high and consistent … winemaker Leon Esterhuizen clearly does a fine job”. Mostly Viognier (60%), with Chenin Blanc and just a touch of Rhône grape Grenache Blanc, it has lightly tropical fruit and lots of zesty freshness.
