The Wine
Fiona Pinot Noir is named after the sister of Bruce Jack, founder of the Flagstone winery. She inspired the team to make this cool-climate red, which has lovely richness, ripeness and elegance too. You’ll notice the heart on its label – a reference to Pinot Noir being something of a heartbreak grape, famously difficult to please. A winemaker may strive to ensure their Pinot vines are happy, but it doesn’t always work out. No heartbreak here, though. Fiona is all pleasure – ripe plum and mulberry, with chocolaty earthy notes and floral aromas. It’s from the Darling region, just north of Cape Town and close to the coast, so ocean-cooled. Perfect for Pinot Noir. An ideal red with meatier fish like tuna or salmon, with mushroom goulash or duck.
