Watching this high-spirited, tenacious animal that radiated life was heart-warming. Such was her wild nature that she could never be put under harness. Nowadays, an old photo of Fire and her foal sits on the mantlepiece in the winery’s tasting room. Visitors can picture her unbridled joy with this expressive Chardonnay. Most of the grapes hark from the valley of wine and roses, Robertson, which offers some of South Africa’s best vine-growing areas. Early harvested for freshness and fermented cool, this crisp white packs in zesty fruit. Great on its own or with chicken, a creamy pork dish or gently spiced curry.
